Football proprietor lauds Obaseki for embracing grass-root development

As the 2016 Governor’s Cup in Edo State enters its crucial stages, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the 2016 Edo State Governorship election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has been commended for supporting and promoting grass-roots football development in the state.

Chairman, Star Football Academy, Coach Musa Ellams and Chief Organiser of Edo Governor’s Cup made the commendation during the week in Benin City, saying that Mr. Obaseki has been the pillar and and backbone behind this year’s edition of the competition which is in its fifth year and organised annually to encourage and discover budding talents which abound in the state. According to Coach Ellams, “Mr. Obaseki’s interest and resources committed towards ensuring the success of this year’s football event, is an indication that better days are ahead for sports generally in the state if he eventually becomes governor of the state.” The tournament has reached its knock-out stages with some quarter-final matches already decided. In two of the matches played, Esan Central local government defeated Esan West 2-1 while Etsako East thrashed Igueben 3-0. The next round of quarter-final matches between Oredo local government and Egor as well as Ikpoba Okha and Ovia North-East will come up on July 12, 2016 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. The semi finals will be played on July 13 and 14 while the final will hold on July 16, all at the Auchi Public Field.
